This is a genus of two small clustering dioecious palms
from Southern China and North Vietnam. A few years ago,
a palm seed seller advertised Rhapis seed available in
large quantities. When Hawaiian and other growers
sprouted and grew the seeds, it was discovered that they
were really Guihaia argyrata! Although there were a lot
of disappointed growers, the Guihaia species we have
growing here is very suited to our landscapes and
deserves wider use. |

G. argyrata
Height: 3 feet clumps
Size of crown: clumps 3 to 4 feet wide |
| Cultural requirements and other comments:
This small species has very attractive palmate leaves,
green on top and delightfully silver beneath. The stems
are covered with upright growing needles. It tolerates
full sun and also grows in the shade—an ideal landscape
palm. |
