This is a monotypic and very rare palm from the
Marquesas Islands where it grows in the undergrowth of a
single valley. Fruits are large and can take up to three
years to mature. Since there are not that many seeds
produced by a single tree, one can see why the plant is
not widely available. |

| Cultural requirements and other comments:
This stunningly beautiful palm has been thought to
require shade to look well, but it has been found that
it can take more sun than originally thought, although
some protection from the very hot Kona sun is advisable.
Because the leaves are pinnate but undivided with
gorgeous silver undersides it is best to try to provide
wind protection. This palm is worth the effort to grow
in the right conditions with regular moisture and
humidity if you can provide it. |
