1. A. merrillii (Manila Palm)
Height: up to 50 feet with age, but most often 25 feet or less
Size of crown: 6-8 feet in larger specimens |
| Cultural requirements and other comments: The Manila Palm is popular
(ubiquitous) worldwide due to its neat appearance and small size. It is also widely used due to its hardiness and availability.
The trees grow moderately quickly with adequate moisture and can tolerate some salt spray. The attractive red fruits have
resulted in the Manila being called the “Christmas Palm” in Florida. |

2. A. merrillii ‘Golden Form’ |
| Cultural requirements and other comments: Developed in Thailand, this Manila
Palm looks just like the ubiquitous palm described above, except this form of Manila has a wonderfully yellow crownshaft and
slightly lighter color leaves. Slower to establish at first (due to less chlorophyll, we hope to see this unusual form of Manila
used more in the future. |
