A. arenaria (Seashore Palm)
Height: 8 feet
Size of crown: 15 feet |
| Cultural requirements and other comments: This small palm has
great potential for the landscape. The underside of the twisted and densely packed leaves are silvery in color giving the palm a
lovely shimmering appearance in the wind. A. arenaria is extremely salt tolerant. It grows on the seashore of Brazil and can
even tolerate direct contact with ocean water. It could be planted in the sand as an aid in beach erosion control. The orange
seeds of the fruit are delicious to eat especially in the early stages of ripening. |
