| Cultural requirements and other comments: This palm can be seen
growing in rain forests in New Caledonia at elevations between 1000 and 4000 feet. B. vieillardii grows best with
adequate moisture and some shade, especially when young. The distinctly ringed trunk and slightly swollen crownshaft are unique
features of this palm. It is not fast-growing, but receives attention in the landscape due to its attractive (almost zebra-like)
crownshaft and pinnate leaves. |
