| This is a genus of about thirty palms from New Guinea. They are mostly small,
undergrowth palms with pinnate leaves and can be either clumping or solitary. Some palms of this genus could be naturally found
in boggy conditions. The reddish-purple new emerging leaf is a significant feature of Calptrocalyx. These palms grow best in
moist, shady locations and could be good container specimens in protected areas. |

C. albertisianus
Height: 20-25 feet
Size of Crown: 8-10 feet |
| Cultural requirements and other comments: This striking palm
from the rainforests of New Guinea is usually solitary-trunked. It thrives with high humidity and partial shade. The beautiful
reddish color of the new emerging leaf, and large conspicuous red fruit makes this palm noticeable in the landscape. |

C. spicatus
Height: 40 feet
Size of crown: up to 24 feet |
| Cultural requirements and other comments: This solitary species
is unusual for Calyprtrocalyx, because it is quite tall and can be trained to accept full sun. Sumptuous 12 foot
leaves over a tan trunk with prominent rings make this palm an interesting choice for the Kona garden. |
