| This Genus was first described in 1875 from fruits found on the island of Aneityum (Anatom)
in Vanatu (New Hebrides). The monotypic palm, Carpoxylon macrospermum, remained in obscurity until its accidental discovery in
1987 on Espiritu Santo in the same group of islands. Seeds slowly became available through the 1990s as the palm became
established in collections. It has proven to be a fast, reliable and wonderfully ornamental palm. |

1. C. macrospermum
Height: 90 feet in habitat
Size of crown: 12 to 15 feet |
| Cultural requirements and other comments: This is a particularly gorgeous
palm. The trunk has a swollen leaf base up to a foot in diameter. The bright green crownshaft is disproportionately long,
matching the grace of the twelve foot recurved leaves. Being a rain forest palm, it will need regular watering and should be
mulched. It will grow in filtered light to full sun and deserves a prominent place in the Hawaiian landscape, especially in Kona |
