2. H. lagenicaulis (Bottle Palm)
Height:
up to 20 feet
Size of Crown: 5-10 feet and sparse
Cultural requirements and other comments: This palm is commonly known as Bottle Palm because of the shape of the trunk. H. lagenicaulis has been used frequently in landscapes throughout Hawaii. It grows best in full sun and can tolerate some drought, wind, and poor soils. The character of the trunk, the thick arching leaves, and waxy crownshaft make this an attractive landscape palm. Its smaller size lends itself to planting in a residential garden.
