This genus includes seven palms from the Solomon Islands, New Guinea, Malaysia, and the Nicobar Islands. These palms are pinnate-leaved, solitary-trunked, and monoecious.

Cultural requirements and other comments: This palm is probably the tallest of the genus. Solitary-trunked, it is from the Nicobar Islands. It can be found growing in low mountainous regions. The broad crown and non-arching leaves with pendant leaflets give this palm a very majestic look in the landscape. Protection from harsh conditions is best at immaturity, but it can grow in open spaces as it matures.

Cultural requirements and other comments: This solitary- trunked species is endemic to the Solomon Islands. It grows naturally in rain forests at lower elevations with limestone soils. R. elegans can be very elegant in the landscape, with slightly arching leaves, gracefully arching leaflets and a spherical crown.
