| These small to medium- sized palms come from areas like southern China and the
Himalayan region of India. These palms can be solitary or clustering. The large blunt and scalloped edged leaflets, an
outstanding characteristic of these palms, make it appear similar to Caryota species. It should be noted that
solitary species die after fruit has matured. |

1. W. disticha
Height: up to 15 feet
Size of Crown: 5-10 feet |
| Cultural requirements and other comments: These unusual palms
grow best in both full sun and partial shade, with ample water. The thatched trunk and large leaflets with silver undersides are
interesting characteristics of this palm. The leaves arch out from the trunk in two ranks so that the palm looks like a fan. The
trunk becomes oval and has marvelous weave-like patterns of persistent thatch. It is important to know that these palms die
after flowering and fruit has matured. This can happen in ten to twenty years. |
